POSITION OVERVIEW

Zebra Youth is currently interviewing for an Executive Director (ED) to provide leadership and strategic direction to the organization and ensure that it fulfills its mission and goals. The ED will oversee all operational, financial, and programmatic functions, work with the Board of Directors to implement the organization’s vision, and ensure financial stability and accountability.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to ensure Zebra Youth achieves its mission and goals.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to define and implement strategic initiatives and long-term goals.
  • Communicate the organization’s vision and goals to stakeholders, including the Board, staff, donors, partners, and the community.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

Operations and Program Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services.
  • Ensure that programs are aligned with the organization’s mission and effectively meet the needs of the community.
  • Monitor the performance and outcomes of programs, ensuring continuous improvement and efficiency.

Financial Oversight:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial health and sustainability.
  • Oversee financial planning, reporting, and audits in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Ensure sound fiscal management practices, including compliance with non-profit regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Cultivate and manage diverse funding streams, including grants, donations, and fundraising efforts.

Fundraising and Development:

  • Lead fundraising efforts to secure funding from diverse sources, including government grants, individual donors, corporations, and foundations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, community stakeholders, and funding partners.
  • Oversee grant writing and reporting, ensuring all funding opportunities are leveraged appropriately.

Board of Directors and Governance:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the staff, ensuring smooth communication and alignment on organizational goals and strategy.
  • Support and collaborate with the Board in fundraising, advocacy, and governance activities.
  • Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of Board members.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and governance policies.

Public Relations and Community Engagement:

  • Serve as the public face and spokesperson of the organization, representing it in the media, public forums, and with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, community leaders, and other non-profit organizations.
  • Enhance the organization’s visibility, advocacy efforts, and brand recognition in the community.

Staff Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise staff, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Implement performance management systems and provide regular feedback to employees.
  • Ensure a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, business administration, public administration). A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5–7 years of experience in senior leadership roles within a nonprofit organization, with experience in fundraising, operations, and staff management.
  • Familiarity and sensitivity in dealing with the unique needs of marginalized youth, including LGBTQ+, homeless youth, and youth of color
  • Experience with homeless prevention, housing services, and evidence-based interventions, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial planning.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit laws and regulations.

Zebra Youth is a network of organizations, which provide services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and all youth (LGBTQ+) ages 13 – 24. Zebra Youth assists young people facing homelessness, bullying, isolation from their families, and physical, sexual and drug abuse with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability.
